Thickeners & Clarifiers

An MEP Thickener is a machine designed to receive effluent water containing solids resulting from a mineral process operation and in conjunction with chemical flocculants, concentrates this partially dilute pulp into a thicker pulp.

This thickening effect is achieved by rejecting the greater part of the water in a solids free condition, thus making it suitable for re-use in a closed circuit washing progress.

The thickened pulp is either pumped from the Thickener for further dewatering, blended with processed material or discharged to waste if the concentrated mineral has no value.

The MEP Thickener Drive Mechanisms are centre drive types relying on the conventional basis of design which is a well made, heavy duty machine capable of handling arduous dues encountered in mineral processing industries.

The raking mechanism comprises two arms, which have the capability of handling additional volumes as they accumulate during their passage to the centre of the tank.

The mechanism can be mounted on either new or existing concrete, mild steel or stainless steel tanks.

Thickener Range

  • LSG Series Thickener Rake Drive Mechanisms – a heavy-duty drive mechanism with automatic rake raise and lower.

    • The LSG Series comprises a spur gear and pinion drive system with automatic raise and lowering of the rakes, specially designed to cope with fluctuations in the feed solids. The design is heavy-duty to deal with the rigorous of mineral processing.
    • Mechanisms are available to accommodate various tank diameters up to and including Ø40m.

  • XL Series Thickener – a heavy-duty but simple rake driving mechanism.

    • The XL series provides a rotation only mechanism for less arduous dues where fluctuaons in the feed rate to the Thickener can be handled by a variable speed underflow pump.
    • This model has been designed to meet the demand for a rugged but simple and cost effecve unit.

Thickener Information

  • The feed rate to a Thickener and the settling rate of the solids will vary.
  • Larger Thickeners are better able to cope with higher feed rates.
  • A larger Thickener will generally require less operator attention.
  • You are unlikely to complain that your Thickener is too big.

Tank Designs

We offer a wide range of standard as well as custom designed tank designs including:

  • Mild steel conical (HC).
  • Mild steel conventional with sloping base.
  • Mild steel conventional with flat base.
  • Mild steel shell walls mounted to a concrete base.

The units can also be manufactured in stainless steel for more arduous environments such as at sea dredged aggregate sites. Units can also be manufactured to fit a concrete tank provided by the customer.
